2007-08 Season Summary

The highlight of the 2007-08 season was the 2nd place finish in the NCAA national championships where the Cardinal finished 1 shot behind UCLA -- see a complete recap below.

Coming into the season there were many question marks after losing two All-American golfers in Zack Miller and Matt Savage who averaged 71.4 and 71.5 throughout the national championship winning 2006-07 season that was as good as any for the Cardinal. Despite the losses there was a solid recruiting class coming in and a returning 3-time All American senior in Rob Grube.

It didn't take long for one of the incoming freshman, former US Junior Amateur champion Sihwan Kim, to contribute as he finished second individually in the opening tournament in Japan. That finish foreshadowed what would be a brilliant first year for Sihwan who would go on to lead the Cardinal in scoring as he would become only the second freshman in Stanford history to earn 1st team All-American honors --- the other turned out to be a pretty fair player, Tiger Woods.

Rob Grube provided strong senior leadership throughout the season on his way to an historic career as he would earn All-American honors for the 4th time. Only one other Cardinal, Joel Kribel, accomplished this feat while on the Farm from 1995-1999.

Other major contributors included sophomores Jordan Cox and Joseph Bramlett, although after his All-American freshman campaign Joseph was injured during workouts and was sorely missed the second half of the season. Juniors Dodge Kemmer and Daniel Lim had solid seasons while another freshman, Steve Ziegler, came on strong mid-way through the season. Freshmen Matt Kennerknecht and Graham Brockington gained valuable experience and look to contribute in future years.

Numerous postseason honors were handed out to Cardinal players this year. Sihwan Kim was named 1st team All-American, 2008 All-Nicklaus team, 1st team national freshman team, 1st team All Pac-10 team & freshman of the year in the Pac-10. Rob Grube was named 3rd team All-American, 1st team All Pac-10, lst team All-Academic Pac-10 team. Dodge Kemmer and Daniel Lim were named 2nd team All-Academic Pac-10 team. Steve Ziegler was named honorable mention All Pac-10.

Stanford Finishes 2nd in National Championship

Stanford's dramatic comeback falls 1 shot short of UCLA's winning score in the national championship. After falling behind by 12 shots on day 1, Stanford was the lowest scoring team over the last 3 rounds. In the final round, Sihwan Kim's 71 was the only score under par.
